Dealer says I need a ECM ($500) that 06 GM Corvette check engine light on

Story goes like this:

I recently took my 06 GM Corvette to our local GM dealership of an oil change. My car has almost 26,000 miles on it, it’s in presteen condition and runs perfect. A week ago the “check engine” light appeared on the dash (the same time the “change oil” display appeared). My assumption was the check engine light was associated with the needed oil change. The service department manager calls and informs me my car needs a ECM ($500). I realize the car is 11 years old, but at 26,000 miles I wouldn’t dream of having to start replacing practically brand new parts! Should I get a second opinion? Is the ECM a known issue with this model? Shouldn’t the car run bad if the ECM needs replaced?

So the second opinion to troubleshoot is to pull the codes with a GM Tech2 scanner, the popular working one is GM Tech2.

Then I search and choose a web store who I think is reliable:, it is around 250USD and it’s an old site because I am considering if I have any question after I ordered they can help me fix it.

I thought it was a worthwhile investment since there are 3 GM cars in the family fleet.

2 days after mine arrived I promptly scanned and cleared the code. My check engine light came on immediately after I detailed my engine compartment to get it ready for a car show. I had the air filter assembly out to clean it and it threw an erroneous code “High Intake Air Temperature” when I started the car. I cleared the code and it hasn’t come back on since.

If you are the first installment on the purchase and saved a trip to the dealer. These new cars and their complex CAN bus computerized systems have been known to have electrical gremlins. I have had 2 instances in the 6 months of ownership where the cruise control quit working. To repair it I had to disconnect the battery, let it sit for a while, hook it up again and it was fixed.

Here is something i wanna share with you all. Maybe it’s helpful.

Ford VCMII Reasons of this error:

It’s a clone issue some are blacklisted especially on the never v. Of ids. (@ norman1967, Thanks thanks thanks!!)

What i did for the success:

86.01 in vmware with c81 calibration. That sees a 2011 vehicle no issues. It lets me connect to my 6.7 diesel 2011 super duty!!  I was able to turn on regen and reset my tire and axle ratio!!!

I;ts the only one that really works with vcm2 clone , l have spent days trying newer ones , waste of time.

Do I need BMW ICOM NEXT to flash BMW G30?

Puzzle: Is the BMW ICOM NEXT mandatory or is the up to date ICOM 1st generation ICOM from 2012 ok?
Can I flash NBT EVO with old ICOM?

I flashed NBT EVOs with old ICOM without problems.


Flashed all Cars with Icom Next and Online Aos with DHCP over Router. Since that i have Never any Problems with NBT or other. Flash E/F/G with this Setup.

Note that Online Aos is the online version of the BMW software for Diagnostic, Programming any many other things.


To answer your question
1st : you doesn’t need BMW ICOM NEXT A+B+C to flash the G series…but It actually Lot better & save up your times because iCOM NEXT has build in Gigabit connection.
2nd : old iCOM working find. It just take a lot longer.


Icom best any type , router I noticed w my setup I use desktop w 2 lan port and on a few f cars it actually faster then oem it programs up to 8 module same time w gigabit switch , and handle data lots faster than etnet cable and for certain modules the router is a must will crash hu high in kombi in a few others


Any icom will work , but to be safe with f,g,i series vehicles , use a dedicated router as kafas huh and a few other modules will crash if you do not use a router it handles the switches for Ethernet as those modules use more than 1 path way , in short it uses all 4 two pair wires and without router not good , this has worked for me for some time now good luck. note my router does not connect to wan


ICOM Next is the best option for G series, working better and faster than BMW ICOM A3 Pro+ cables. It handles multiprogramming and coding quite nicely. Gets the job done much faster if flashing the complete vehicle. Also, another benefit to Next will be compatibility for future cars.

12.2017 XDOS Activation: via Startkeycenter

This is the Startkeycenter I used to activate 12.2017 Xdos with old keys. Move the folder to C:>PROGRAM FILES(x86)>MERCEDES BENZ. Launch startkeycenter from folder. Insert keys for xentry only. For DAS you should move the LIC.SLI file to C:PROGRAM FILES(x86)>MERCEDES BENZ>DAS>BIN which will activate it with no timeout. Blacklist is self explanatory which folders they should go in. I don’t claim any of this files……




New & Old keys working 100%:

No problems activating with new keys, have a look at this:

Also No problem with old keys. Xdos 12.2017 installed and activated …Fully working….. I even did a transmission program and scn coding on a 221. For old keys all you need is a modified startkey center folder. Copy toC:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz. After key installation you can erase folder. Of course you will need 2221-45 and 3.91 error fix, Das timeout fix and blacklist.
